Day 13 - Tlaquepaque

This morning we headed out on a tour to the Guachimontone pyramids. The pyramids are located in a small lake side town - Teuchitlan. We loved learning the history of the pyramids and the local area. These pyramids were used for ceremonial purposes and for ball games. Unlike the pyramids in Mexico City there wasn't much sacrifice here - only the captain of the winning team from the religious ball games (it was a real honour). It was nice to go somewhere that wasn't full of tourists and vendors trying to sell you something at every opportunity that they had. In the afternoon our guide took us on the public bus to Tonala (I have been on 4WD trips that weren't as rough as the bus). Tonala is another craft area (a bit of a cultural shock for us). We wandered through the market before catching a taxi back to the hotel. It was time to take a break from Mexican food, so dinner tonight was Pizza. We have had some much fantastic food here - we have probably been more game to try different things on this trip and not so worried about getting sick. So far our stomachs are holding up really well.
Overnight: Quinta Don Jose
