Sunday - Day 23

When you only have one day in a city it is hard to decide where to go, so after much deliberation we settled on the Pheonix Zoo. Plenty of great animals and Shane & the kids spent the first hour patting the stingrays and sharks in a tank. We were all pretty tired by the end of the day when we headed off for San Diego at around 5pm. The drive from Pheonix took us through desert and mountains. The country side was so diverse. Unfortunately most of the trip was in the dark. We arrived into the surrounding areas of Yuma and this was a real surprise. It was a big town and it was full of RV parks. I have never seen so many expensive RV's in any one place - there must have been thousands (we found out later that these are the snow birds that come down from Canada for the winter). We also travelled through the sand dunes which is a popular holiday place for dune buggy riding. The buggies were out at night on the sand dunes so driving through you could see the hundreds of lights riding up and down the hills. We finally settled on an overnight stay at Alpine, which was only about 45 minutes from San Diego.

Overnight: Ayers Inn Alpine
